Can I use a casement window (cranks out) as the entry point?Updated 2 months ago
Since traditional cat doors don't generally lend themselves to installation in casement windows, there is no good way to install a kitty door in the window aside from cutting the glass and installing a door directly into the window - which we don't typically recommend.
This means that in order to use the window for entry/exit, it needs to be able to open. For this, what we would recommend is a window enclosure that will cover the entire window and leave enough room for the casement window to crank open. In order to let cats in and out, the window really will only need to open about 8", and window enclosures are 22" deep. On nice days you could leave the window open so the cat(s) can come and go freely, but you also have the option of letting the cat(s) in and out by simply opening and closing the window when needed.
Alternatively, you may be able to install a pet door into the window screen to also help keep insects out.
Another option, depending on the location of the window, would be to use a 3-Sided enclosure that fully encompasses the window, as you can see here:

How well this option works is highly dependent on the window location.
